The Cleveland Museum of Art is searching for a Lead Developer who will be part of a small dedicated team building, refining, and perfecting the museum's numerous online digital initiatives, as well as on-site interactive and digital installations. This includes embracing new technologies and maintaining high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
The position will require working closely with both the Director of Technology and Chief Digital Information officer to achieve project and institutional goals. Additionally, this role will include the managing and mentoring of 1-3 junior developer/interns.
Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, this is initially a remote position.
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
- Prior experience in a technical leadership position.
- Proficiency with at least two of the following programming languages:
- Python
- PHP
- C++
- Objective-C (iOS)
- Java (Android)
- Proficiency with at least two of the following frameworks/platforms:
- Flask
- Drupal
- iOS
- Android
- .NET
- ReactJS
- Fluency in both NoSQL (MongoDB) and relational (MySQL, MSSQL) databases.
- Strong web-development skills, i.e. HTML, Javascript, and CSS.
- Experience integrating with APIs and other external datasources.
- Experience with AWS and Azure cloud platforms a plus.
- Internally motivated, able to work proficiently both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively among cross-functional teams.
- Strong initiative to find ways to improve solutions, systems, and processes.
- Very strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills with both internal team members and external business stakeholders.
- Ability to understand, document and explain complex technical information for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership with regards to design, development, and debugging of applications.
- Work with Director of Technology and Chief Digital Information Officer, as well as project managers, to lead staff and contract developers through projects.
- Back-end development work in the noted languages and systems, including RESTful APIs, the CMA Collection Online, and custom Content Management Systems.
- Front-end development in the noted languages and systems.
- Optimizing and documenting technical solutions and workflows.
- System operations work including AWS and network architecture setup and maintenance.
- Keeping up on emerging technologies and how they can relate to enhancing the museum experience. This includes Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, NFC, RFID, Kinect and other motion-based sensors, etc.
- Working closely with all external technical vendors contracted with the Museum, including Piction (digital asset management) and Tessitura (digital ticketing).
