Job Description
The Washington Post is hiring a Software Engineer for our in-house image management tool. We are looking for a self-motivated engineer with a conscientious mentality and a commitment to innovate upon high-quality work. In this role, your contributions would directly support the Newsroom’s world-class photography and visual journalism.
Responsibilities
- Build dynamic new features across both the front-end and the back-end of the application.
- Refactor and improve the stability of the current application codebase.
- Support and make improvements upon the application’s cloud-based infrastructure.
- Work directly with product managers and occasionally stakeholders from either the Newsroom or other internal teams to help translate business requirements into technical tasks.
- Focus on application performance testing and tuning
- Serve in an on-call capacity.
What we’re looking for:

- Experience with front-end technologies such as JavaScript, AngularJS, and React.
- Experience with back-end technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, and JUnit.
- Experience with DevOps technologies such as Docker and Jenkins.
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) such as S3, ECS, EC2, and CloudWatch.
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests to ensure code quality.
- Experience in agile software development teams and working iteratively with designers, product managers, and stakeholders.
